Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development (BWA) represented by Ms. Fatima Frutan, Head of Environmental Citizenship Program and Ms. Bedoor Rajab team member of Environmental Citizenship Program has participated in “Eye on Earth Sumimt” under the slogan “Convene – Converge – Collaborate” December 13-15, 2011 in Abu Dhabi – United Arabic Emirates under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President.. The Summit is hosted by Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), facilitated by Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI) and held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The Eye on Earth Summit convened world leaders and experts in environmental and societal information networking to reach consensus on solutions to greater data accessibility and encourage stakeholders to collaborate to strengthen existing data access initiatives and launch new ones.
Participants agreed to create eight Special initiatives in several areas at a regional level: Eye on Water Security, Eye on Biodiversity, Eye on Oceans; Blue Carbon and Eye on Network, Eye on Disaster Management, Eye on Community Sustainability and Resiliency, Eye on Environmental Education, Eye on Access for All.
The Summit focused on the environmental and societal data community’s adoption of the Eye on Earth Summit Declaration – a document that will provide input to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20)to be held in June 2012.
The Eye on Earth Exhibition run side by side with the Eye on Earth Summit between the 12th,15th December 2011 and showcased and featured the world’s leading experts in the field of Environmental, Geospatial and Societal Data. It is worth mentioning that Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development was chosen to exhibit and showcase the Environmental Citizenship Program (EPC) among the best environmental creative awareness projects in the region. Ms. Frutan introduced the program’s main projects and activity such as; Creativity in Environmental Culture, Earth Charter and Extravagance System.
In addition, a film named “Earth Relief’s” produced by BWA was displayed and received praise from the audience due to its environmental issues in a inspire.
