Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development represented by Ms. Fatima Frutan, Head of Environmental Citizenship Program and Ms. Bedoor Rajab team member of Environmental Citizenship Program has participated in Earth Civil Society Forum “Greater Access to Environmental and Societal Information” held in December 11, 2011 in Abu Dhabi – UAE. The Forum coordinated by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and EAD “Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi was considered as a preparation for Eye on Earth Summit under the slogan “Convene – Converge – Collaborate” held directly after the Forum in December 13-15,2011.
The purpose of the Civil Society Forum is to provide an opportunity for up to 150 Civil Society representatives from all Major Groups and regions to prepare and consolidate their inputs into the summit, to promote the international agenda for improved access and ability to use and leverage environmental data and information for the benefit of all communities of our global society. Participants to the Civil Society Forum will also participate in the Eye on Earth Summit.
The Forum solicited inputs of civil society in addressing the overall expected result of the Summit, and to help create a consensus on key areas of access to environmental and societal information, as well as to collaborate towards strengthening existing initiatives and filling gaps towards more informed policy making and a sustainable future.
In addition, Working Groups were formed whom prepared the White Papers having improvements, remarks, and inputs for “Eye on Earth Summit.
In conclusion, the output of the Working Groups was discussed, and recommendations and amendments envisaged by the participants were submitted to Eye on Earth Summit.
