Members of WAVE from Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Saudi Arabia came together to Istanbul-Turkey to attend the 2nd Regional meeting of the “Women Alliance for Virtual Exchange-WAVE” from 2 to 4 September, 2014. The Regional meeting was held in conjunction with the Internet Governance Forum IGF2014 organized by the UN-ECOSOC.
BWA representative, Mrs. Meena Kadhimi, Board Member and Head of Media Department stated that the Meeting was very successful. Active discussions took place amongst the members on next years’ campaign “Gender Equality within the Multistakehodlersim”, which is adopted by the Internet Governance Forum this year,. Mrs. Kadhimi who chaired the “Women Empowerment Committee and Capacity Building (WEBCC)”briefed participant on the Integrated Action Plan for next year’s training workshops which tone with WAVE goals. It is worth mentioning that WAVE members called out to save women in Iraq and Syria who were and still are subjected to fierce attacks by the militant organizations.
On last day of the IGF2014 Forum, members of “Wave” carried out a session on “Online Advocacy for women rights, challenges and successes” – discussing women’s rights in the Arab countries to have access for opportunities that contribute to the improvement of their livelihood and knowledge through e-business operations/trading.
