Bahrain Women’s Association – For Human Development (BWA) organized an awareness lecture on the culture of tolerance entitled ” We Tolerate to Sublimate” in one of the Majlises in Hamala area on Tuesday evening, 28 November. The lecture aimed at defining the value of tolerance and how it can be exercised in daily in the community, thus contributing to the reduction of disagreements and conflicts, and instead focusing on common principles, values, and beliefs that facilitate coexistence as the areas of convergence and communication with each other. Ms. Rabab Al-Shehabi, a key trainer in the issues of peace and tolerance in the BWA delivered the lecture, while the young member of the association, Mrs. Bushra Al-Jafiri, highlighted the importance of the culture of tolerance among youth and their significant role in achieving peace in society.
The lecture addressed the values of diversity, variations, and disagreement as fundamental values for practicing the culture of tolerance. The culture of tolerance can only be practiced after believing in these values as a fundamental necessity for growth and development. The lecture emphasized that the right of disagreement should not affect the basic constructs of religions and the obvious forbiddances. People may differ in religion, race, color, and country, but share common human values that constitute the link between them. Everyone has the right to be a Christian or Muslim, Arab or Persian, but is not allowed to be “inhumane” in his dealings with others.
The gathering included a number of interventions of both sexes. They all emphasized on the concepts that the lecture addressed, highlighting the importance of rooting the culture of tolerance in the society as a basic necessity for building the right society free from conflicts and clashes.
