With an invitation from United Nations Environment Program and as a representative of West Asia Region Mrs Fatima Frutan on behalf of Eng. Saba Al Asfoor from Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development has participated in West Asia Regional Consultative Meeting RCM for Major Groups and Stakeholders held in on the 19th and 20th of November 2012 in Dubai – United Arab of Emirates.
The first day papers focused on Post-Rio+20 to UNFCCC COP18 and Post-2015 which will take place in Doha end of this month, moreover, Sustainable Development Goals were also brought up to replace The millennium development goals in 2015. The last paper addressed the Capacity Building for Middle East and West Asia Negotiations.
On the second day of the meeting participants worked on preparing the regional statement reflecting the goals and aspirations of the major groups and stakeholders titled ‘’ Achieving the Future We Want for West Asia’’ which will be presented during the Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum and UNEP Governing Council on February 2013 in Nairobi. Finally the participants voted for the new two representatives of West Asia.
It worth mentioning that the Annual Regional Consultative Meeting organized by UNEP for major groups and stakeholders is an important starting point in reinforcing and developing the environmental agendas.
Furthermore, those meetings give the chance to listen to the countries’ needs and priorities on global level via the flow of information between forums. The regional consultative meetings are the preparatory process of the annual Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum and UNEP Governing Council.
