Upon the invitation of the AIESEC the Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development (BWA) participated in the “Women Empowerment” conference entitled “Yes, She Can”. BWA’s member Ms. Alia Al Yousuf presented her paper entitled “Women Empowerment and Participation” on Saturday, December 23, 2017, in Lagoon Amwaj. The aim of the conference was to shed light on the concept of women empowerment, women’s achievements in this field, and to which extent the Bahrain Vision 2030 was achieved through women’s roles and her accomplishments.
BWA paper highlighted women’s achievements on the personal level through their success in multiple roles that they play such as the economic, political, societal, educational and caregiving roles, as well as highlighting the challenges facing women in reaching decision-making roles.
Ms. Alia also pointed out that women have progressed from the stage of empowerment to actual participation in all areas, and that society has the responsibility to eliminate the obstacles since current legislation and laws are not just to women.
The conference was organized by a group of youths of the AIESEC which is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. And was held under the patronage of SICO Investment Bank. The conference was attended by representatives from Russia, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Egypt, Algeria, India, representatives of SICO Investment Bank, representatives of women’s associations, and students from different universities in Bahrain. The conference focused on highlighting and praising the role of Bahraini women and understanding the importance of the role of society in supporting women to achieve Bahrain’s 2030 Vision.
