This workshop focused on the first 2 principals of Earth charter which highlights the need for a values based relationship between people and mother Earth, it also explained through its creative interactive activities the importance of respecting nature and having a sustainable lifestyle which must be reflected on people’s daily decisions, the workshop intended to raise awareness and bring to light the universal responsibility towards this planet because change must be initiated by individuals before organizations and government in order to be a sustainable and effective change.
Students’ participation was very rich as they suggested ideas and solutions to implement Earth charter principals on daily life bases. It is worth mentioning that the four principals of the Earth charter aims to go beyond all our differences and get united under a bigger umbrella that shades all human beings on this planet with their common aspiration and destiny whatever were the differences in cultures, nationalities and ideologies, those four principals are as follow: Respect and care for the community of life, Ecological integrity, Social and economic justice, Democracy, non violence and peace.
The Earth Charter is a declaration of fundamental ethical principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful global society in the 21st century. It seeks to inspire people to adopt a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well-being of the whole human family, the greater community of life, and future generations. It is a vision of hope and a call to action.
