Eng. Jehad Jafar, a member of the Environmental Citizenship Program of the Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development, participated in the International Training Program on Sustainable Agriculture promoting the use of Groasis Water Box systems. The workshop which was held in Kuwait from October 23-25, 2017 was organized by the Arab Planning Institute and Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, with the support of the Ministry of Electricity and Water of Kuwait.
The program aims to increase the competency of trainees and develop their theoretical and technical knowledge in the field of water management, in an attempt to support the countries overall sustainable development plans, in addition to promoting agriculture in arid areas and deserts.
The workshop presented a new technique used in the Netherlands which provides solutions to water availability problems through the use of Groasis Water Boxes, which is a sustainable system for agriculture. The water boxes provide an ideal environment for plants to grow vertically, which increase its ability to absorb moisture and nutrients from the atmosphere, to eventually increase the green area in a country.
The organizers confirmed that this workshop is a starting point for future capacity building activities in the field of water management, thus enhancing development efforts related to water efficiency, which is one of the Sustainable Development Goals.
