The Environmental Citizenship Program ends 2017 by raising awareness on Rational Consumption and Climate Change

The Environmental Citizenship Program under Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development concluded its environmental activities in 2017 by conducting two interactive workshops at the Kairouan Intermediate Girls School on the 25th  and 26th  of December 2017. Mrs. Fatima Froutan and Mrs. Tahera Shawqi presented the first workshop, titled “Your Choices, a Power to Change the Future”. The workshop highlighted worldwide consumption patterns and its effect on the global environmental, depletion of natural resources and their impact on all our planet’s creatures.

A variety of environmental concepts were introduced through interactive activities and exercises; the workshop was concluded with pledges made by the students committing to leave a positive impact in their community (home, school, and neighborhood). Participants were given the knowledge and tools to encourage environmentally friendly practices.

The second workshop was conducted by Mrs. Jehad Jaffar, titled “Climate Change is a story … Who will write its chapters?”. Topics such as climate change, global warming and environmental disasters were discussed in addition to its negative effects on the environment, economy and social life. The main focus of the workshop was on actions that each individual can take to reduce those effects.

Both workshops emphasized on the role of each individual in taking responsibility to positively change their habits and spread awareness in their community.
