The Environmental Citizenship Program (ECP), part of the Bahrain Women Association for Human Development participated in the “Donate your time” day activity, held at St. Christopher School, on Monday, January 16, 2017.
The event aims to engage students in volunteering and community service through contributions that can add meaning to their lives.
ECP’s utilizes practical approaches to demonstrate the values and concepts to this age group, where Ms. Jehad Jaafar – ECP group member – presented samples of seeds and vegetables that had been planted; to teach students how simple it was to plant them. The activity focused on collecting and conserving seeds through replantation, which emphasize the concept that “seeds are a gift from God to us”, this means that we need to embrace and nurture them by returning them to nature rather than disposing of them with daily trash. Seeding teaches students fundamental concepts whilst going through the process from a seed, to a plant, till harvest. It further opens up new valuable insights for students to understand, enjoy, love and connect with nature. This offers the children alternative choices being meaningfully and positively engaged, instead of spending their time watching TV or playing technology-related games.
It is worth stating that this activity and other events carried out by the ECP, aim to instill genuinely environment respecting moral and values to live by the inside-out values instilled, this is to assure sustainable behaviors to love and live in harmony with nature.
