The “Unbounded Women” program in Bahrain Women Association (BWA) organized a workshop titled (Women’s Guardianship in Islam), on May 4 2013, at BWA premises. The workshop aims to discuss the concept of womens guardianship in Islam by clarifying the prevailing societys understanding and norms of this topic and analyzing the problems related to it, as well as to demonstrate the impact of the alterations of the true meaning of “guardianship” on womens status. The workshop explained that all efforts addressing human issues are efforts related to both men and women, while other issues related to masculinity or femininity are very limited and related to private and specific matters only. This is clear in the Quranic verse “The believers, both men and women, are guides to each other, they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong “, this is because combating corruption in the community or enjoining the right conduct are human oriented responsibilities unrelated to masculinity, neither femininity prevents practicing it.
It is worth mentioning that the workshop “Women’s Guardianship in Islam” is the third in a series of trainings that BWA is willing to conduct during this year and span controversial topics related to women such as guardianship, polygamy and maintainership.
