Within the activities related to the training manual for the project “Women.. a New Paradigm”, Bahrain Women Association for Human Development (BWA) organized the eighth training workshop titled “Young Girls Marriage” on 12 September,2012. The targeted groups were selected specifically for the workshop that aims to: discuss the young girls’ marriage status in the society; its impact on the girl and society, set practical solutions that can reduce this phenomenon. The workshop revealed that young girls were subjected to marriage issue while they are out of this scope according to the Quranic verses that dealt with the marriage issues only for women. All the marriage related verses mentions women only, and the term “women” is reserved for an adult and doesn’t apply to female adolescent. Young girls are out of the marriage scope, and whatever was imposed on them while being unaware under parent’s guardianship does not necessarily oblige them to abide after being aware, and this applies to boys also. The workshop exchanged innovative views and opinions by two enlightenment thinkers “Dr. Adnan Ibrahim” and ”Mr. Jalal Al Qassab” on the subject of young marriage. The workshop ended with a review of experiences in some Islamic countries to reduce the phenomenon of young marriage and concluded ensuring that the effective treatment for this phenomenon requires studying the community social situation, which needs cooperation of the state with civil society organizations, media and other relevant institutions. The appropriate marriage age may differ from one community to another, demanding solutions in line with the social situation, and avoiding the adoption of strategies before determining the root causes of the phenomenon.
