“Women integration in development policies” A training workshop by BWA in Bapco

At the invitation of Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) trade union, engineer Saba Al-Asfoor – head of women’s program in  BWA- conducted a training workshop for group of Bapco employees on ” Integration of women in development policies”, on Thursday, March 24 at the company’s headquarters.

The training workshop addressed  women status in the world,  Ms. AL-Asfoor indicated “women makes up half of world’s  population, but they do not harvest the fruits of growth and development on an equal basis with men, due to the social and cultural obstacles that led to lack of equal opportunities in education, employment and ownership between women and men.” She added: “The reason behind the importance of the integration of women in development is to empower women and to create some kind of balance between the role of women in family and her economic and social role.”Ms Al-Asfoor explained  : “The importance of bridging the gender gap, including the need to move from the development and empowerment of women stage to development through women’s stage. Taking into consideration in developmental strategies the hidden cost of the care economy, which disregards the calculation of the expense of the cost of non-paid services carried out by women..”

In  conclusion of the training workshop, the participants appreciated the importance of the concepts contained in the workshop and expressed the practical benefits they gained , and  that they would like to organize more training workshops that contribute  in correcting concepts and  in development.
