Bahrain Women Association for Human Development launched WLP’s Leading to Action: A Political Participation Handbook for Women on the 7th of August 2010 in Bahrain. The launching was accompanied with a 3 days train the trainer workshop on the manual. Ms. Lina Abou Habib, WLP partner and director of CRTD-A has conducted the training that was attended by many women activists from different NGOs.
This workshop will help women NGOs in Bahrain to undertake their role in raising societal awareness especially for women. Many grassroot women, mainly in villages, are forced by their husbands to vote for their relatives or based on ethnicity, sectarianism or tribal linkages.
Eleven women announced their willingness to nominate themselves as candidates for the October 2010 election. While no woman was elected in the last parliament election held in 2006, there are hopes that women will get more votes in this election compared to the previous one.
